Life, much like my story of the bench at The Corner of 11:11th and Black, carries the weight of stories etched into its surface. For me, that journey began in Central Oregon, where the hot summers, cold winters are a steady companion, and the forests whispered tales of resilience. I grew up surrounded by this steadfast beauty, a reflection of the strength I would later need to find within myself. In 2017, I ventured eastward to Minneapolis, chasing both change and purpose—a pursuit that has shaped every part of my story.
Two and a half years ago, I chose to step away from a life shadowed by self-doubt and substance, carving out a path of sobriety from alcohol. That decision wasn’t just about leaving something behind; it was about rediscovering what it means to live fully. Today, every day feels like a chance to etch something meaningful into the woodgrain of my existence, from my work as an EMT to the nursing degree I’ll proudly earn in May 2025. Each moment is a testament to growth, hope, and the power of second chances.
Outside of my professional ambitions, I find joy in the art of strategy and exploration. Whether I’m studying medical knowledge, unraveling the mysteries of a chessboard, or losing myself in the pages of a thought-provoking book, I’m always seeking to stretch my mind. My fascination with philosophy and theology stems from a desire to wrestle with the questions that define our humanity—who we are, why we’re here, and how we connect to one another. Debates fuel my curiosity, reminding me that learning is a lifelong journey.
Emergency Medical Services are more than a job to me; they’re a calling. There’s a profound honor in being present for others when life feels most fragile, in offering not just care but compassion. Every shift I work reminds me of why I chose this path—the adrenaline of the unknown, the privilege of helping someone heal, and the simple yet powerful act of bearing witness to their story and I look forward to my future education on my path to M.D. (God willing).
If I’ve learned anything, it’s that life isn’t just about the marks we leave; it’s about what we carry forward. From the spirals of my past to the blank spaces ahead, I’m writing a story of resilience, service, and passion. This is my bench, my corner of 11:11th and Black—a place where I continue to grow, to dream, and to make each day count.
